Riding together with Colorado Motorcycle Adventures
Two crews, one tour. Colorado Motorcycle Adventures brings the riders and the
stateside know-how; we bring the South Island — the tracks, the bikes and the
logistics we have ridden and re-ridden for years.
Recently we hosted Jimmy, a regular Colorado Motorcycle Adventures customer, who
decided to visit New Zealand and spend 10 days on an adventure bike with us. Jimmy
competed in the International Six Days Enduro in Taupō back in 2006 — and exactly
20 years later he was back, this time to explore the South Island.
Hearing his stories from 20 years ago was a pleasure, and proof that this place keeps
pulling riders back. February 2027 is the first time we run a full tour together.

Jimmy, 20 years later — back in New Zealand.

Off the beaten path
Explore New Zealand’s untamed beauty
New Zealand is known for its landscapes — but the best of it sits off the tourist
route. Our tours are built to take you across rugged tracks and scenery most visitors
never see.
You will ride everything from gentle gravel to serious backcountry: river fords,
alpine passes, private farm roads and coastal twisties. This is a look behind the
scenes of the South Island — hidden waterfalls, empty mountain ranges and
evenings in towns you would never find on your own.
Ten days, one island, no crowds. Just the ride.
Day by day
Tour itinerary
A full loop of the South Island, Queenstown to Queenstown. Tap any day for the detail.
Off-road
Gravel trails, water fords, mountain passes and special sections — with optional harder loops for advanced riders.
On-road
Inland and coastal New Zealand, alpine passes and some of the best sealed roads in the country.
We begin in Queenstown and ride into the West Coast. Glaciers, rainforest and
spectacular waterfalls, travelling inland mainly on tarmac with small sections to get
familiar with the bike and take in the views. Glacier, rainforest and ocean in one
place at the same time — truly unique.
North along the Tasman Sea coastline and through Paparoa National Park —
towering cliffs, remote beaches and winding coastal roads. Beach riding on sand, with
optional breakout sections for advanced riders on the wild coast.
Forest tunnels, river crossings and challenging 4×4 sections — this is where
the real tracks and challenges start. The day ends with a well-deserved soak in the
famous Hanmer Springs hot pools.
Toward Marlborough’s famous wine country over mountain passes and through vast
farmland. Iconic gravel roads in the heart of the South Island, plus the chance to
taste some of New Zealand’s best wines.
A ride through one of New Zealand’s largest private farms: over 200 km of
inland routes with mountain views and flowing rivers. You might get wet boots, you
might not. We finish in the vibrant city of Christchurch.
We explore Banks Peninsula and the charming town of Akaroa — some of the most
scenic and twisty roads in the country, with off-road challenges for thrill-seekers.
Prefer a break? Use the day for rest, shopping, laundry or sightseeing in
Christchurch: beach, mountains and city in one.
Toward the Southern Alps, past stunning lakes and mountain passes at Mt Hutt. A mix
of scenic gravel and sealed roads keeps the ride exciting, with 4×4 tracks to add some
spice for those looking for more.
Along the shores of Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki with breathtaking views of Mt Cook.
Adventure riding heaven with tracks in every direction — this is where we get
spoiled. Optional riverbed riding for extra adventure.
Through the Oteake Conservation Area and its rugged terrain. An optional route
includes 11 thrilling river crossings. We end the day in the historic gold-rush town
of Alexandra.
The final ride takes us through Nevis Valley, one of New Zealand’s highest and
most spectacular off-road routes at over 1,200 m above sea level. Cherry on top: a
private access track overlooking Lake Wakatipu. We finish back in Queenstown with a
goodbye dinner.
The programme and individual points may change due to unforeseen road conditions,
difficulties at the places where the programme is carried out, or other events beyond the
organiser’s control.

Step 1 of your trip
Apply for your spot
Ten riders, one group. Because group balance matters on terrain like this, we ask a few
questions before confirming a place. No payment at this stage.
Good to know
Frequently asked
No. The application is how we get to know you and check the group fits together. Once we confirm your spot, a 30% deposit of NZ$3,570 secures it, with the balance due 60 days before arrival.
Tell us honestly in the application. We have run these routes for years and we will tell you straight whether this tour suits you, or whether one of our shorter tours is a better start. Every day has easier alternatives and the pace adapts to the group.
Most of our riders do. Accommodation is twin share by default — we pair you with another rider — or you can take the single room upgrade for NZ$1,350.
In some cases, yes — the support vehicle has limited capacity and it depends on the group. Mention it in your application and we will work out the details with you.
Your own helmet, gloves, jacket, pants and boots if you have them — February in New Zealand means warm days and cool alpine passes, so bring layers. A full gear set (helmet, gloves, jacket, pants) can be rented for NZ$95 for the whole tour.
The route is a plan, not a promise. Your guide adjusts the day based on road, river and weather conditions — that is exactly why a local guide with pre-ridden routes matters.
